Current Faculty Development Fellows and Their Scholarly Activities


The two-year Faculty Development Fellowship enrolls two Army physicians and up to two Navy physicians each year. Four Army fellows are presently in training: two each to graduate in 2002 and 2003. Two Navy fellows are due to graduate this year and one in 2003.  The first Air Force fellow is currently in the program and is due to graduate in 2003.

Class of 2002

LCDR Maureen Padden MC, USN

LCDR Padden entered the MPH program in June 2000. She is conducting a study looking at the effects of a multidisciplinary team approach utilizing intensive diabetic management techniques on two primary care diabetic populations. Her other interests include medical education and the role of women in military medicine.

LCDR Patrick Ginn, MC, USNR

LCDR Ginn is the second fellow to enter the MBA program at Pacific Lutheran University. His interests include resident education and organizational behavior and management.

MAJ John Barrett, MC, USA

MAJ Barrett began the MPH program in June 2000. His thesis work will continue to build on the "Unintended Pregnancy Prevention Program" by looking specifically at factors associated with pregnancy that affect the intentions of active duty soldiers to separate from the Army.

MAJ Mary Krueger, MC, USA

MAJ Krueger entered the MPH program in June 2000. Her thesis is titled “Barriers to Breastfeeding in Active Duty Women.”  She is also involved in the Madigan "Pregnant Soldier Wellness Program."

 

 Class of 2003:

MAJ(P) James Liffrig, MC, USA

MAJ Liffrig entered the MPH pathway in June 2001.  His academic interests include executive medicine and wilderness/environmental medicine.  He is currently involved in developing a Wilderness Medicine elective in conjunction with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences with the initial offering scheduled for Spring 2002.

MAJ Thatcher Cardon, MC, USAF

MAJ Cardon is the first Air Force fellow in the program.  He entered the MBA pathway in August 2001.  His academic interests include organizational theory and teacher-learner relationships in the context of health systems.

MAJ David Wallace, MC, USA

MAJ Wallace entered the MPH program in June 2001. His primary academic interests involve health education for adolescents including both tobacco cessation and sexual health. 

LCDR Inzune Hwang, MC, USNR

LCDR Hwang also entered the MPH pathway in June 2001.  His academic interests include the use of information technology in medical education and tobacco cessation education strategies.
