Mission & Vision

VISION

The USAFP will be the premier professional home to enhance the practice and experience of current and future Uniformed Family Physicians.

MISSION 

The mission of the USAFP is to support and develop Uniformed Family Physicians as we advance health through education, scholarship, readiness, advocacy, and leadership. 

GOALS

Goal 1: Membership. Sustain membership and enhance membership services.

Goal 2: Operational. Enhance Uniformed Family Physicians’ and service members’ capabilities to excel in all operational environments and roles.

Goal 3: Educational. Provide quality education for our members: anytime, anywhere.

Goal 4: Scholarship. Promote and facilitate scholarship.

Goal 5: Leadership. Develop leaders and mentors.

Goal 6: Advocacy. Advocate for the interests of the Uniformed Family Physician, our patients, and an improved healthcare system.

STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS (OBJECTIVES)

Membership

Goal 1: Membership. Sustain membership and enhance membership services.

  • Obtain/maintain 90% of identified eligible Active Duty as members.
  • Obtain/maintain 100% of active duty residents as members.
  • Increase medical student membership.
  • Identify and examine strategies to address the top four items identified on the membership services survey.
  • Maintain 90% satisfaction in annual meeting feedback.

 Goal Champion:  Membership and Member Services, Clinical Informatics, Practice Management, Resident & Student Affairs Committees

 Operational

 Goal 2: Operational. Enhance Uniformed Family Physicians’ and service members’ capabilities to excel in all operational environments and roles.

  • Provide operationally relevant educational sessions annually to membership.
  • Facilitate military operational medicine rotations for residents and students.
  • Develop and maintain relevant, current and user friendly operational medicine resources.

Education

Goal 3: Education. Provide quality education for our members: anytime, anywhere.

  • Provide high quality, evidence-based Annual Meetings.
  • Develop and maintain virtual and distance learning opportunities for members worldwide.
  • Provide resources to members to serve as educators.

 Goal Champion:  Education, Clinical Informatics, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Practice Management Committees

Scholarship

Goal 4: Scholarship. Promote and facilitate scholarship.

  • Sustain the premier research competition.
  • Create a showcase highlighting scholarly activity by members.
  • Provide resources to allow all members to conduct research.
  • Maintain robust training for local research mentors.

Goal Champion:  Clinical Investigations Committee

Leadership

Goal 5: Leadership. Develop leaders and mentors.

  • Increase the participation of first tour Uniformed Family Physicians on the USAFP Board of Directors and Committees in order to develop leaders.
  • Sustain and support programs to develop future and current leaders.
  • Develop educational opportunities for training physicians as leaders of the healthcare team.
  • Foster mentoring opportunities both virtually and at the Annual Meeting.

Goal Champion:  Practice Management, Resident and Student, Operational Medicine, Member and Membership Services, Member Constituencies Committees and Senior Service Directors on USAFP BOD

Advocacy 

Goal 6: Advocacy. Advocate for the interests of the Uniformed Family Physician, our patients, and an improved healthcare system.

  •  Have members of the Executive Committee or Past Presidents of USAFP seek opportunities to meet with influential leaders within the MHS.
  • Encourage and support USAFP members’ participation in AAFP.
  • Challenge the USAFP BOD to submit relevant resolutions to the AAFP Congress of Delegates supporting the interests of the Uniformed Family Physician, our patients and our health care system.
  • Annually recognize remarkable Uniformed Family Physicians for their achievements.
  • Engage retired Uniformed Family Physicians to serve as advocates for the USAFP.
