Below are descriptions of each committee to help you decide in which committee you would like to participate.

Please note, committee terms are one year in length. If you are currently serving on a committee, you must reapply each year.

USAFP Committee Chairs are appointed by the President.  The Chair selects the members within the parameters of the Bylaws. 

Clinical Investigations Committee
Promotes improved and increased original clinical investigation and other scholarly activities among the membership.

Constitution and Bylaws Committee
Assures that the Constitution and Bylaws remain current and in keeping with the objectives of the organization.

Education Committee
Offers guidance to members regarding development of continuing medical education activity for local or national office and chapter membership.  Committee is the approving authority for CME applications at the chapter level.

Health Care Services Committee
Improves healthcare services through (a) education of membership about policy and plans, (b) providing a forum to discuss problem areas, (c) conduct evaluations and research on healthcare delivery issues.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Committee
Develops resources to assist family physicians in performing health promotion and patient education, literature and videos.  Develops mechanisms, including funding, to make resources available to military family physicians, especially those in smaller more isolated assignments.  Promotes health promotion in the USAFP and throughout military medicine.

IT Committee
To promote the understanding and application of information technologies for the members of the USAFP, particularly as they relate to clinical practice, residency training, and decision support systems.

Membership and Members Services Committee
Responsible for demographically characterizing and tracking our membership, as well as recruiting new members and assisting in the continuing re-election of current members.  The President and Board of Directors assign tasks to this committee regarding the investigation of the provision of any and all services to our members.  Examples in the past have included CME coordination with the Education Committee, investigation of disability insurance for active duty military, and research into a biography of information on issues regarding Managed Care and its impact on military family physicians.

Operational Medicine Committee
Purpose is to strengthen the operational medicine role of the uniformed family physician so he/she will excel when functioning in an operational environment.

Resident and Student Affairs Committee
Studies and addresses special problems, needs, and concerns of students and residents in relationship to military family medicine.

Special Constituencies Committee
To ensure cultural competence in regard to serving and educating patients and members; to promote enfranchisement of patients and physicians in special populations; to foster leadership and mentoring opportunities among special populations; to promote inclusively within the USAFP by increasing representation of special population views and interests; to serve as a resource on politically sensitive issues of current and emerging special populations.
