Payment of Bills
Direct payment
Up to 6 allotments direct from military pay
Have more payment come from bank (electronic fund transfer)
If you wait until deployment:
Finance Office may be handling many requests
Processing of requests may take weeks
Take with you:
checks (have separate accounts if married)
addresses of mailing addresses and amounts of bills, if fixed
Are there some bills that you won't need?
cell phone
full car insurance
Power of Attorney to someone to pay bills
for spouse
also useful if not married
Entitlements
Separate Rations (BAS) will stop
Possible additional pays and allowances:
Foreign Duty Pay- enlisted only
Imminent Danger Pay
Family Separation Allowance
to all soldiers with dependents who deploy for > 30 days

 

 
Leave and Earning Statement (LES)
Ensure spouse gets copy
May be able to arrange two copies
 
DD Form 1337 Authorization/Designation for Emergency Pay and Allowances- have this always on hand for spouse
 
Separate Checking Accounts for self and spouse
Using allotment or electronic fund transfer from bank
Determine direct deposit arrangements ahead of time (see above)
 
Joint ownership of:
Residence
Automobiles
