1. NON-PUBLISHED / PRESENTED ABSTRACTS

  • Factual abstracts reported on completed, unpublished original research that has not received peer review feedback.

  • If an abstract is accepted for publication in a peer reviewed journal or is presented at the regional, national or international level prior to the Assembly, the abstract will be removed from the competition.

CLINICAL INVESTIGATION – relates to direct patient care, clinical trials and/or health services delivery.


EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH – study of the content and effectiveness of educational interventions pertinent to medical students, residents, faculty, practicing physicians, interdisciplinary care teams and includes rigorous evaluation process.


PLEASE NOTE: CASE REPORTS ARE LIMITED TO ONE SUBMISSION PER PRIMARY AUTHOR

CASE REPORT– a rare or undefined clinical occurrence or approach to diagnosis/treatment that adds to the current knowledge base.

2. PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED / PRESENTED ABSTRACTS

  • Original work that has already been presented at the national or international level.

  • Research that has been previously published or accepted for publication in a peer reviewed journal.

  • Research not previously presented at a USAFP meeting.

  • Abstracts judged to be meritorious and of importance to military family physicians will be invited to present at the Annual Meeting. No award is given in this category.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA

  • Applicants and primary authors must be members of the USAFP. If not a current USAFP member, please call 1-800-274-2237 or email contactcenter@aafp.org.Verification of AAFP Membership Number for application / abstract submission process is required.

  • All members of the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians are eligible to submit an abstract for consideration — this includes medical students who have assisted in developing a research project in conjunction with a mentoring physician and also including retired and reserve physicians who are in the “adjunct member” category.

  • Primary authors are expected to submit and present their research.

  • Research cannot be submitted in two different categories in the same year.

  • Exluding title, headings, and author information submission abstracts are limited to no more than 300 words.

HOW TO SUBMIT

All submissions must be submitted online through the appropriate form based on the submission category and by the posted deadline. Upon submitting you will be alerted with a green notification box for a successful submission or a red notification box for an error or incomplete submission that requires you to resubmit.

IMPORTANT DATES

Submission Deadline – 2 October 2023 Noon EST.  Abstracts must be completed and submitted prior to the NOON EST deadline in order to qualify for the competition.
